Y6 SATS Information

Nationally, all children in year 6 sit SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) in May. The SAT tests, test the children on the KS2 curriculum for:
  • Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Maths

The SATs determine wheter pupils have gained and embedded the statutory learning within the KS2 curriculum in preparation for secondary school. The children's targets for GCSE at secondary are set from these KS2 assessments. The SATs tests themselves are a 'right of passage' for our year 6 pupils, and the week is an exciting one, where the pupils feel particulalry grown up! It is a good preparation for later life; the first time they experience a conditioned assessment and build towards a performance. Our pupils have enjoyed the experience over the last few years, despite the hard work!

At the start of year 6 we hold a SATs parents meeting, at which teachers share more information about the tests, how we prepare children for them, expectations of the children and how you can help at home. This meeting is are a great opportunity for you to look at some past SAT papers as well as ask any questions you may have about them.
