Curriculum Organisation
Curriculum Intent
The curriculum at Halfway Juniors is designed to engage children in a culture of knowledge and love for learning. Our curriculum, organised as a cycle of intensive drive areas, promotes a deep and enriching exploration of subject knowledge and disciplinary skills, in order to interact with and respond to curriculum content. Our curriculum is fully inclusive, with a high emphasis on promoting thinking; our ability to assess, consider and organise knowledge before responding to enquiries, problems and solutions. To support growth, our curriculum ensures the child is at the centre of our approach, developing important skills and attributes, such as robustness, critical thinking, debate, reflection, analysis, creative problem solving, independence and more. Our aim is to ensure our pupils have the academic, cultural, and global knowledge, alongside the skills to be successful inside the classroom and out.
Ambition within the Curriculum
Our curriculum sets out to provide an ambitious, rich and challenging enviroment for all of our pupils, moving beyond simply rote learning, memorisation and precedural knowledge. We strive fort all children to enjoy engageing and interracting with knowledge; critically thinking, and drawing upon prior learning to shape their opinions and conclusions. The crurriculum promotes opportunity to link learning and build upon existing knowledge, with an emphasis on ensuring foundational knowledge is embedded. Challenge is a key part of both academic and character education; the ambition within the curriculum is to challeneg all pupils, both academically and their character for learning, and enjoy the process of finding solutions or utilising skills, and gaining a deep understanding of the ideas explored.
Our goal for all pupils is to ensure their curriculum is strategic; responding to pupils' start points in order to create an exciting and engageing journey through KS2, overcoming barriers and challenging thinking.
Wider Curriculum
The wider curriculum is organised into two distinct layers depending on the nature of the subjects. Our driver Subjects, History, DT, Art and Geography form an intensive exploration leading a whole term. The whole school aproach provides opportunity for further enrichments and opportunities across the year groups, creating a deep and engageing learning experience,
Some subjects are taught discretely, ensuring quality and sequential content delivery taught weekly over the year.
